Dear SCRC members and conference participants,

Thank you for your patience as the SCRC board members, conference planners, and the SMU administration have consulted over the weekend as to our conference planning.  We have determined that the best course of action is to cancel our Exploring the Renaissance 2020 meeting scheduled for March 26-28, 2020.

First, I thank our conference planners, Mary Villeponteaux and Emma Wilson, who worked hard to plan a wonderful program and venue, and our host SMU for their generosity and leadership.  I’d also like to thank Tim Moylan and Brendan Prawdzik for their help with registration. And finally, thanks to everyone on our board and in our organization for their support and collegiality.

Our secretary-treasurer Tim Moylan will be sending out an email shortly concerning financial matters and refunds. Membership dues will stay with the organization to cover your membership and subscription to Explorations I ask you to consider donating all or part of your registration fees to SCRC if possible.  While the conference is cancelled, we will still incur expenses to cover our venue and hotel obligations. We want to ensure that our SCRC accounts remain healthy. Tim will include information in his email about how you can donate your conference registration fees, and we will provide a summary statement indicating this donation that can serve for tax purposes.

I know many of us are busy re-structuring our courses and our work/family duties, and I wish you luck and good health these next few weeks. It would have been nice to see all of you in Dallas and have a drink or coffee together, and I look forward to doing so next spring.  We are currently working on conference planning for 2021, and we will be in touch with conference location and dates once everything is confirmed.

Please contact me (pmgarcia@utexas.edu) if you have any questions or concerns.

Stay well,

Patricia García

SCRC President
